To support my local community, I joined the Friends of the Roselle Public Library (FRPL) in an effort to help fund programs at the library. This organization’s mission is to solely raise funds for the library and sponsor programs/events, such as Summer Reading for the youth patrons.
I found the organization did not have a strong brand at the time of joining; therefore, I volunteer my time to not only help sort donations for their book sales, but to help create a solid identity for FRPL. An updated brand could help revitalize the organization’s membership, both by being eye-catching and cohesive
I considered the general user base of libraries, but FRPL tends to have a strong population of adults with their children. Not only would it need to have a family-friendly appeal, it would need to remind donating adults where a large portion of their donations go to: supporting children & teen programs.
I created the sun mascot as a nod to the organization’s old logo and to be familiar with both their user base and operating members. The modern, yet retro design appeals to kids by being fun, and to adults through nostalgia. As of now, this mascot has been used on bags for their most recent book sale and has received positive impressions.
Currently, I am still working on expanding more of their brand identity and planning their social media. The following was my exploration of the mascot design and choosing a brand font.
